Boy Birthday Party

These are images from my son's 1st Birthday.  We celebrated it on July 31st, 2010 at our home.  We decided to celebrate it at our house as we had not had any big events since we had bought the house one year ago.  We thought it was a great occasion to share our new home with family and friends.  We decorated the dining room area with the cupcake/cake table and I began decorating the day before and played with different ideas until I was satisfied with then end result.  On the pic. you see one of the attempts, cupcakes, party blowers for all the kids and the cake had not arrived but we had all the cake toppers on the table waiting in anticipation...

I decided to put my son's picture up on the table in order to make it more personal.  The picture was also the picture used in all the "Thank you" cards, keeping the same theme through out is very important.  I also decided to put he's Christening shoes on the table as a way to show that he is a child of GOD and is growing in the faith. 

This was the final result!  The decoration theme was "Toy Story 3" and all the colors were selected according to the theme.  The cupcakes and cake were decorated using the same color theme.  The balloon arch blended in all the colors in the background giving it that extra "umf" for the pictures.  I put his high chair in the back in anticipation for the big moment of singing "happy birthday" with his "bib" on it and on the table I put his very own special "birthday hat".

This is one of the pictures taken at the time every one was going to sing Happy Birthday, we sang it first in english, then in spanish.  All the kids and adults enjoyed the cupcakes, some even ahd seconds.  I have the tradition also that family and very close friends where a shirt/blouse of the same color.  For my son's birthday we wore green to match the birthday colors.  My son had his very own cupcake with his #1 birthday candle.  Every detail is important in making the party special.

This is a picture from one angle of the backyard and how we were able to use the entire area and decorate the tables with the different colors of the birthday theme.  We also had a bouncy house for the kida to enjoy, and they did the whole day!!!

All the planning made for one happy little one year old boy!!!!

Hoy (09/01/2010) tuve la oportunidad de almorzar con una persona muy inspiradora y positiva.  Ella es una empresaria y dueña de varias propiedades en el condado.  Fue una grandiosa oportunidad el poder hacerle diferentes preguntas, aprender un nuevo vocabulario empresario y conocer posibles opciones que tengo disponibles para hacer de ésta jornada todo un éxito.  Por una parte, ella me confirmó varias cosas que ya yo había aprendido durante el proceso de investigación de hace unas semanas atrás; certificarme es sumamente importante, continuar estudios en ésta profesión, y adquirir mayor conocimiento y experiencia en planificación de eventos, consultora de bodas y coordinadora de fiestas, aunque sean todos términos similares.  Creando una cadena de personas que rieguen la voz sobre tu trabajo es la mejor manera y la más efectiva de mercadear tu negocio o empresa.  La buena reputación que establescas es sumamente importante para promocionar tu negocio y a la vez recibir esos comentarios positivos que van a ser los que eventualmente van a crear esa efecto de correr la voz a la otra persona, y la otra, y la otra, etc...  ¡Tu palabra vale muchísimo, lo que significa que cuando digas que vas a hacer algo, lo cumples!  En cualquier negocio y en la vida si no cumples con las cosas en las que te has comprometido a hacer, no solo le has fallado a los demás sino que peor aun te has fallado a tí mismo.

Durante el almuerzo me di cuenta de que ésta nueva jornada conlleva un poco más de lo que originalmente imaginé, pero a la misma vez me confirmó aún más, que este es un reto que quiero y estoy más que comprometida a llevar acabo.  ¡Así que continua uniéndote a mi en esta nueva jornada para ver como termina!

People Joining the Journey

Today I was able to sit and have lunch with a very positive and inspirational person.  She is a business owner and also owns several properties.  It was great to be able to pick her business brain and to learn different terminologies and potential options that I can have available to succeed in this new journey.  For one she confirmed to me things that I had researched like the importance of getting certified, studying further and gaining knowledge on event planning, bridal consulting and party planning, which are all similar terms.  Creating a network is key to succeeding in this area, word of mouth is the best marketing tool.  The reputation you establish with others is extremely important in getting that positive feedback and that trickle down effect that word of mouth creates.  Your word is your bond, which simply means that if you say you are going to do something, you do it!  In any business and in life in general if you do not follow through with things that you have committed to do, you have failed not only those you have let down, but more importantly yourself. 

During the lunch I realized also that this journey entails a bit more than I originally understood, and at the same time re=confirmed for me that this a challenge I am willing and more than committed to taking on!  So continue following to see how this wonderful new journey turns out!!!

¡Aquí comenzó la jornada!

Aquí fue donde nuestra jornada comenzó.  Durante nuestra boda tuve la oportunidad de planificarla en su totalidad, claro, que el novio tomo parte, "muy poco" : ) y una amiga muy querida me presto telas para la decoración.  Los colores que definieron la boda fueron el crema y verde con un toque de rojo en las flores y demas decoraciones. El local donde se celebró la recepción fue en un pequeño centro comunitario que tenia cabida para unos 150 invitados.

El séquito y sus ajuáres complementaron los colores escogidos con sus trajes y accesorios.  Los trajes de las floristas y el portador de anillos eran color verde y crema que yo diseñe acorde con el estilo de mi traje de novia.  Sus vestidos eran de manguillos, con una banda de encaje y perlas color crema, y en la parte trasera tenía tres rosas en tela que juntaba la tela verde que se abría como el pétalo de una rosa para dejar salir la tela en satín crema. Mi sobrino, quien no quiso salir en la foto, llevaba puesto un pantalón victoriano bombacho en verde hasta la rodilla y una camisa crema con un entrelazado en el cuello de la camisa. 

Para la recepción decoramos varias áreas de el local, de manera que teníamos más variedad al momento de tomar fotos.  La mesa para los novios fue una de las áreas decoradas donde se tomaron muchas de las fotos familiares.  La mesa era una media luna (mi esposo la construyo) decorada con velas en candelabros dorados y un centro de mesa en rosas rojas que tambien tenía velas dentro.  Todas las mesas de la recepción tenían velas decoradas y los centros de mesa eran jarrones en cristal decorados con lazos y cintas doradas y verdes con rosas rojas.  Durante el brindis llevado a cabo por el Padrino (mi tío), todas las velas fueron encendidas y le dieron ese toque de belleza y elegancia a la recepción.  Tuvimos también un área decorada sólo para el séquito.  Hubo un área decorada como un jardín con árboles y plantas para traer la belleza natural de afuera dentro de la recepción.

La mesa del bizcocho (pastel) es otra de las áreas importantes dentro de lo que se decora para la recepción.  Es un punto importante de gran enfoque durante la recepción y un lugar para sacar fotos maravillosas.  Nuestro bizcocho (pastel) de bodas estaba decorado con flores y hojas hechas en pastillaje con pequeños detalles en perlas doradas que le dieron ese toque elegante.  En el tope habia un arreglo (regalo de una amiga querida) en cerámica con dos novios dentro de un arco de flores.

¡Cómo se pudieron dar cuenta, cada detalle es importante, cada área puede ser el lugar para una foto perfecta, un recuerdo que durará toda la vida!

Where the journey began!

This is where it all began.  Our wedding was planned in it's entirely by me, of course the groom had some say in the process.  The colors were Beige and Green with an accent of Red in the flower decorations.  The hall was a small community hall but we were able to fit at least 150 people during the reception.

The Wedding party blended the colors in and the dresses for the flower girls and ring bearer were designed by me in coordination with my wedding gown.  I had the flower girls wear green sleeveless dresses with a beaded beige waist band and the back had 3 flowers that united the openned back of the dress with beige satin material making it look like petals of an open flower.  The ring bearer was my nephew who refused to come out in the picture, but he was weaaring green victorian pants (knee length), a beige shirt with a lazo style tie.

At the reception we had several areas that were well decorated, in order to have more options for picture taking.  We had the Bride and Groom table where some of the family pictures were taken.  This table was a half moon shapped table that was decorated with candles in candle holders and center piece flower arrangement that also had candles in it.  The candle were also put on all of the tables where the guest were sitted.  At one point during the "Toast" done by the best man (my uncle) all of the candles were litte up and made the reception look even more beautiful.  We also had another area that was just for the wedding party.  There was an area decorated as a garden with a bench and trees and lots of green plants that made the outside come in to the hall. 

The wedding cake table is another one of the most important areas to decorate for the reception.  It's a very important focal point and a great area for pictures.  In our wedding the cake was all in foundant with hand made foundant flowers and leaves.  It also had gold beads stratigecaly placed for that added bling.  The cake toper was a small ceramic piece of a bride and groom under a flowered archway. 

As you can see every detail is important, every area can be a picture perfect moment!

Beginning of the event planning journey Latino

Comencemos pues esta magnífica jornada!  Quizás te preguntarás que me hizo siquiera imaginar comenzar una jornada como ésta?  La realidad es que simpre me han facinado las fiestas, cumpleaños, parrandas, bautizos, bodas y cualquier evento que requiera el poder compartir con los seres que amamos.  Sin saberlo, he sido una planificadora de eventos toda mi vida.  En mis años escolares siempre estuve envuelta en diferentes grupos estudiantiles o comités para organizar y planificar algún evento o actividad.  Durante eventos importantes de mi familia ayude a organizar y planificar la despedida de soltera de una de mis primas, ayude a decorar el lugar de la fiesta, crear las decoraciones y ayude en escoger y envolver los regalos de la corte nupcial.  Tambien ayude a planificar el Quinceañero de otra de mis primas (somos muchos los nietos de mamá y papá).  Ayude con la planificación de la fiesta y la decoración de el local, y fui la co-Maestra de Ceremonia.  Cuando mi hermana se caso, le ayude a planificar la boda; hicimos los centros de mesa, decoramos todo el local y la Iglesia sin ayuda de un profesional, yo hice e imprimi las invitaciones, tambien diseñe los trajes de las niñas que eran parte del séquito.  Tambien planifique mi boda de principio a fin, hice los centros de mesa, decore el local con ayuda de mi familia, diseñe e imprimi todas las invitaciones, hasta pude tener voz en como se iba a celebrar la ceremonia religiosa y hasta la selección musical para la ceremonia.  Una vez comenzo nuestra familia a crecer, yo he planificado y decorado todos los cumpleaño de mis hijos.  Tengo una amiga que dice que los cumpleaño de mis hijos parecen Bodas o Quinceañeros  ya que no escatimo en ningún detalle.  Honestamente, no sé como no habia pensado en esto antes.  Quizás muchos se harán la misma pregunta cuando esa bombilla interior de repente brilla y se dicen a sí mismos, "duh".

La etaba de investigación en la que me encuentro ahora, he aprendido lo siguiente:

1.  Necesito tener un plan (plan empresario)
2.  Necesito saber exactamente los servicio que se va a ofrecer
3.  Necesito invertir en equipo/materiales (buena impresora, celular, fascímil)
4.  Necesito un nombre (listo), una frase acogedora (listo), un emblema empresario (en proceso-mi esposo es muy artístico)
5.  Necesito tener un grupo de referidos (vendedores, locales, hoteles, caterings, decoradores, alquileres)
6.  Un buen pnto a mi favor sería estar certificada y/o acreditada.

Ahora estoy en la etapa de educarme y verificar cuáles son todas mis opciones; ¿cómo se hace?, ¿cuándo se hace?, ¿por qué se hace?, ¿qué se hace?, ¿con quién se hace?. Todas preguntas claves en esta nueva jornada que he decidido embarcar.  De algo si estoy segura, que comenzaré desde abajo, pero con la garantía y ayuda de DIOS de que nos convertiremos en algo más.  Mi teoría es "o lo hago grande o me voy para mi casa".

Hasta ahora todo es una idea real y tangible, solo tengo que seguir adelante y mantenerme en movimiento sin detenerme.  "Sigan las metas trazadas y sepan que los sueños se pueden convertir en una realidad".

Beginning the journey of event planning

Let's begin this fascinating new chapter!.  You might ask, what made you think of even attempting to do this? I have always loved gatherings, parties, get-together, birthdays, christenings, weddings and anything that would constitute sharing time with people we love.  With out knowing it I have been a planner all of my life.  in school I was always involved in the different student groups, always involved in committees to organize and plan some event. In family events like one of my cousins bachelorette party, I decorated and put together the decorations, gifts for the bridal party. At another cousin's Quinceañera (15 year), I helped decorate, helped plan and was the co-MC. I also helped my sister with he entire wedding, from decorating the reception, church, doing the center pieces, doing and printing out the invitations and every detail possible.  I planned my entire wedding and with the help of my family and friends decorated and put together the entire reception, I even had a say in the religious ceremony.  When our life as a family started, I planned all of my children's  birthday parties and as one of my best friends would say "they looked like weddings and sweet sixteens".  I honestly don't know why I did not think of this sooner, and this phrase is probably one that many people have said to themselves after their internal light bulb comes on and they say "duh".


In the research stage that I am at, I have learned:

1. I need to have a plan (business plan)
2. I need to know what services are going to be provided
3. I will need to invest in some equipment (good printer, fax and cell phone)
4. I will need a name (done), catch phrase or mission (done), Logo (work in progress, my husband is the artist)
5. I will need to build on a network (my friends, family and definitely word of mouth)
6. It's a big plus to be certified and credited

Now I am at the stage of studying and looking into all of the options; how to?, when to? why to?, what to?, who to?, of this entire new journey that I am going to pursue.  I know one thing for sure, i will begin small but once I am up and running, I will "go big or go home".


So far this idea is tangible and real, I just need to keep the ball rolling and not stop.  "Follow your dreams and know that they are not far from becoming true".
